Featured Cause: Help Rebuild Misty’s Beloved Barn!

In 2023, the Museum of Chincoteague Island purchased the historic Beebe Ranch thanks to widespread donations. Since then, the Museum has been renovating the home, creating exhibits, and caring for the property and ponies. With the house set to open to the public by the end of June, the Museum is now focusing on the next major project: rebuilding Misty’s Barn, which was lost in a 2019 fire.

Misty, the famous Chincoteague pony, lived much of her life in this barn, which held special significance for visitors and was even featured in Wesley Dennis’s illustrations. The Museum aims to rebuild the barn as close to the original as possible.

You can donate via GoFundMe here!

All donations are 100% tax-deductible and go directly toward the barn. The Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN #54-0899483), officially named the Oyster Museum DBA Museum of Chincoteague Island.

Monetary Donations

Each donation and membership fee that we receive directly benefits the museum. Your donations help us maintain our collections, design and build new exhibits, provide educational field trips for students, and allow for the day to day operations of our buildings and staff. No matter what size – every donation helps!

The Museum of Chincoteague Island is a non-profit organization. All contributions are tax-deductible. Our Federal EIN is 54-0899483.

Donations to our Endowment Fund

The Museum celebrates the people, culture, and heritage of the Island and donations if our Endowment Fund aid us in continuing that mission by sustaining the Museum for years to come.

Gifts to the Endowment are a great way to memorialize a lost loved one or to honor someone for an anniversary or other accomplishment.

Object Loans & Donations

Another way to help preserve the history of Chincoteague Island is by donating or lending items of historical significance to the museum’s collection. Donations of objects and artifacts are acknowledged in writing for tax purposes. Please keep in mind that only objects that have to do with Chincoteague Island history will be accepted into the collection. Items are vetted by our Board of Directors Collections committee before being accepted.
